Ahem...

IT'S SNOWING!!!!!!!!!

Fuck yeah! It's sticking, too! And coming down pretty heavily! Hells the fuck yeah! And I have coffee ice cream.
This year is going to be good, I can feel it. So far it has been the year of doing people's hair.

Oh, and after all this time on LJ, my favorite mood icon is the one on this post. So adorable and demented.

Holy crap on a crispy cracker, Atlanta!

It's cold weather and some form of liquid/frozen/hybrid precipitation from the sky. Not Armageddon! Chill the F out!

I'm slightly concerned about getting home, this evening, but that's because I ride mass transit, and if the buses stop going, I'm screwed. Waiting for the bus in 21 degree weather sucked, this morning!

Otherwise, I plan on getting home, doing some chores, and making some homemade soup. Of course, this necessitates a stop at the grocery store, but by that time it will have begun....doing whatever it is its going to do, and all the Southerners should be out of the store and huddling in their homes waiting for the sky to fall.

Mmmmm, home made beef/beer/veggie soup. I haven't made that in ages!

Blah. Poker.

Actually went a little bit on tilt at last night's game. I was in the lead, chip-wise, in our second timed game (two 2-hour games, Wednesday nights), drew ace-queen, and impulsively moved all-in after the guy before me checked. Everyone else folded, he called with less than me and turned over paired aces, and that was that -- none of the cards to come out on the flop, turn, or river helped.

That knocked me down to about a third of my previous chipstack, and when I was dealt king-ten offsuit on the following hand with about 20 minutes total left to play I threw up my hands and moved all-in again. (I had no other chance to catch up and come close to winning any money.) Someone else at the table called, turned over paired sixes, and I was out.

Grrrr. I have to get better at controlling my impulses when I get outplayed or hit a bad beat, so as not to go into chip-spewing death spirals in the future. Usually I'm not bad about that, but last night... hmmmph.

I'm becoming a better poker player, true, but that bit of bad luck (on top of hitting ace-king and getting upended by an ace-ten river-straight on Monday) still annoys me. Nonetheless, I'm still thinking seriously about taking part in a deep-stacked tourney at Rockingham Park on the 18th. It has a substantial entry fee, but my bills are pretty much taken care of for this month and I'll have gotten paid on the previous Friday.

Total winnings for the year to date: -$20.

[info]prof_pangaea wrote the most fascinating pictorial fic I've seen in a long time, in Sherlock Holmes book-verse, entirely told as messages between the two Holmes brothers via telegram records, after Reichenbach Falls. It's definitely well worth the time to read. The end ... wow. Just go read it, will you? : )

This year's been good so far. Lets hope it keeps it up!

I am currently eating with my lobster fork, which somehow makes food taste so much better. Last night I stayed up for some late-night ebay sniping. I got three mink skulls and six minks for a good price. Why am I buying minks and mink skulls? Ssshhh, never you mind.

I always thought it was odd that the people that seem to love looking at tortured animals the most are members of PETA. Fun Fact: Amy Sedaris has been in ads for PETA, and also decorates her home with taxidermy. This makes me smile.
Don't worry, I know I'm twisted.

Santaland is over for another 10 months. Harold was a bit weepy, but I'm glad to get my free time back. I'm going to murder my to-do list in the next few weeks!
I'm celebrating by working an 8 hour shift at the box office.

I'm heading up to Charlotte on a mini-vacation/late Christmas with my family end of this week. Maybe. This morning, [info]tomomallie took his Mom to the hospital because she was having trouble breathing. That was almost seven hours ago, and I haven't heard from him since. He said he'd call me with updates, but he also knows I'm working, which in his mind is "Absolutely Do Not Disturb!!!" Silly fool doesn't get it that just because I can't talk all day at work like he can, and can't take frivolous personal calls doesn't mean that my bosses are going to have kittens over an quick, important personal call.

Tasty Drink
This is what I drank on New Years Eve. [info]sarahjlewis made it for me.

2009 in review...

  • Jan. 1st, 2010 at 9:11 AM
* got a bit better at cooking, and started a food blog.
* froze my ass off in January, suffered heavy-rain-spring-like weather all the way through June, sweltered through 2 weeks of humid heat, broke down and bought an air conditioner, promptly caught a cold from cooling off near said air conditioner, remarked widely and profanely about the freakishly warm autumn and winter weather (71 degrees, on Halloween, SERIOUSLY?), and am now caching food as though there will be the Mother of All Blizzards descending on New England soon.
* flew to the Southwest and spent a whirlwind week hiking and driving about all manner of natural wonders.
* discovered and started playing poker (badly, so far, but I'm slowly getting better -- if I can just tone down my tendency to BE STUPIDLY IMPULSIVE WITH BAD CARDS).
* remained celibate.
* discovered what a claddagh ring was and did not pursue someone who was wearing one, sigh (this with a subtext of discovery that many men are completely idiotic jerks).
* found what I think might be my dream house, and now just have to actually pursue it (assuming that it is, in fact, still on the market); of course, there's the problem of whether or not it's actually resellable if I ever want something a bit larger (it's only 2 bedrooms).
* worked a ton.

It doesn't seem like just yesterday that it was 2000, because there's been so much history since then. A quick recounting...? )

So, resolutions for New Year 2010. )

... and wow, that last one's not too vague, eh? *grin*

Here's hoping for a better decade to come. : )
